The answer is people. Like the people who gave presentations at a recent symposium held at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.
The symposium brought together representatives (physicians, scientists, business) from industry and academia, some of the finest minds in the cancer community. They spoke about targeting certain genes, cancer genomics, immunotherapy, solid tumors, stem cells, and patient involvement.
Debbie and I listened to speaker after speaker whose aim is to make more cancer therapies available to more cancer patients. New research and ideas were shared. They are dedicated people working every day to help patients.
I was also able to meet people, at the break, including representatives from companies dedicated to patient care like NanHealth and Tempus. Visit nanthealth.com and tempus.com.
Dedication is great, but it takes a vehicle, like this symposium to really get things moving forward.
We, at cancerbeast.com, advocate for accelerated research, sharing and patient involvement. The organizers of the symposium support the same goals and also build relationships so that new discoveries will make it to the patient’s bedside quicker. All good.
An article that we wrote titled “Firefighters and the Cancer Beast” appeared on a few websites this month including: fireengineering.com, illumina.com, and ucsdmccindustryrelations.com. We added it to our website, see Firefighters and Cancer if you want to read it on our site.
We also added new items to the News section, calendar and “Y” is for your tissue. Finally, we continue to support participation in the NIH’s “All of Us” program. They need 1 million or more volunteers to help accelerate research and improve health. See their website allofus.nih.com for the latest and think about joining.
